Biography

Performing regularly with Food Will Win the War, Licorice, The Whitewalls and Rebecca Hart, Matt Epstein is one of the busiest bassists between New York and Texas today. The multi-instrumentalist/ composer began his musical career as a classical violinist at age 8, and by age 15 had taught himself how to play guitar. In 1998 Matt began studying at the University of Michigan where he was bassist for the university’s renowned Creative Arts Orchestra. After studying at Michigan Matt returned to New York to pursue new musical ventures. While growing as a performer and composer, Matt worked at Sony Music, Chesky Records, and Universal Music. Taking on large projects in production, marketing, publicity and promotions Matt had the opportunity to work with a number of his musical idols including: Ron Carter, Larry Coryell, Paquito D’Rivera, Victor Bailey and Lenny White. Since then Matt has continued to grow as a musician and composer – performing at a number of high profile events and festivals including: The Blue Note, Brooklyn Academy of Music, The Ed Sullivan Theater, 92Y and multiple appearances at The Telluride Jazz Festival where he has collaborated with the likes of Roy Hargrove (trumpet), Larry Coryell (guitar) and Mike Dillon (percussion). Matt currently resides in Dallas, TX where he’s working on a number of projects.
